FINISHED ROOFING

As soon as the roof system is installed during the dry-in phase of construction, you will be ready for your finished roofing.  This should be arranged several weeks before the dry-in is scheduled to be completed.  The roofing contractor should start as soon as possible after the roof system dry-in is complete.  Felt should be installed on all roofs before the finish roofing contractor starts and is a function of the dry-in crew.

Since any type of finished roofing can be installed on a log home, there should be no difference in cost between a log home roof and a conventional home roof.  However, the steeper the roof, the steeper the price from your roofing contractor.

Below are some estimated installed costs for several different types of roofing.  Costs will vary from region to region, but the estimates give an indication of the relative costs of different types of finished roofing.

All are multipliers of the TOTAL ROOF AREA

                (A square refers to 100 square feet - 10’ x 10’)

                Estimates include materials and labor:

                1.  20 year shingles                                   $40-$60/per square

                2.  30 year dimensional shingles                 $60-$80/per square

                3.  40 year dimensional shingles                 $80-$120/per square

                4.  Prefabricated metal roofing                     $120-$150/per square

                5.  Cedar shake roofing                               $200-$300/per square

                6.  Standing - seam metal roofing                $300-$400/per square
